Getting small sized image in high pixel camera?

Usually the digital camera provides different photo sizes to capture an image. Say, I have 7.0 mega pixel camera and I shoot 600X800 sized image, what will be the mega pixel used for it? will it be a 7 mega pixel 600X800 sized image or lesser mega pixel is used by the camera? Please let me know. Thanks in advance.

I don’t know for sure. I’m assuming it depends on the camera model. If they just used the center pixels, it would have the effect of high zoom so I’d assume they either use all the pixels or evenly spaced out pixels across the entire sensor.
